Wednesday took a deserved point in a goalless draw at West Brom this afternoon.
The home side looked anything but a team with play-off aspirations and we battled well to end a run of four successive Championship defeats, arguably missing the best two chances of the game which both ell to Ike Ugbo.
In a first half which could be described as l0w-key at best, our only threat came on 27 minutes and might easily have led to an opener.
Yan Valery sent a dangerous low cross into the box but Ugbo failed to connect as he slid in six yards out and Jamal Lowe missed the target as he tried to hook the loose ball home at the far post.
At the other end, Ethan Horvath had dealt with early long-rangers from Mikey Johnston and Alex Mowatt with the home side largely showing no cutting edge.
There was little change at the start of the second period with few chances until midway through the half when Ugdo again failed to capitalise on an excellent opening, Svante Ingelsson setting up the striker 12 yards out but his tame shot was easily saved by Carl Griffiths.
Ten minutes later a long throw from Ingelsson found its way to Liam Palmer but he smashed over the bar from eight yards.
Horvath came to the rescue on 82 minutes when Dominic Iorfa deflected a dangerous West Brom cross towards his own goal but the keeper saved well to secure a hard-earned point for the Owls.
The draw leaves us bottom of the Championship on minus five points, trailing nearest club Norwich – who we play at S6 on Wednesday night – by 13 points.
