Wednesday make the long trip to Southampton tomorrow looking to make it three Championship games without defeat.
Better finishing in the 1-1 draw at home to Norwich on Wednesday evening would have seen a first home league win of the season for the Owls while the managerless Saints ended a run of five games without a victory with a 2-1 midweek success at QPR.
None of our long-term injured players are ready to return and one of them, Nathaniel Chalobah, has suffered more problems following the calf injury suffered at Leicester on the first day of the season, manager Henrik Pedersen saying the club is awaiting results of more scans.
This leaves Pedersen with no option but to largely stick with the same squad as they face a third game in a week, although Bailey Cadamarteri could get a place in the starting line-up after injecting more aggression and creativity up front when coming on as a sub against Norwich.
Before tomorrow’s game we sit on minus four points, 17 away from the survival places, while under-21 coach Tonda Eckert will again take interim charge of the home side following the recent sacking of Will Still. They are in 19th place on 15 points and are likely to be without ex-Owl loanee Shea Charles through injury.
We will also be looking for a first away league win at Southampton since November 1997, stretching back eight games and to Premier League days when we won 3-2 with Paolo di Canio grabbing a late winner. Our other goals came from Peter Atherton and Wayne Collins while the Saints, managed by Dave Jones, scored through none other than Hillsborough favourites David Hirst and Carlton Palmer!
