Wednesday were outplayed tonight as we went down 3-0 at home to Derby.

It stretches our winless run to 14 games and could have been a heavier defeat as we also continue to strive for a first home league victory of the season.

Derby were in almost total charge and took the lead on 32 minutes when they pounced on a loose clearance by Liam Cooper and Patrick Agyemang turned past Dominic Iorfa to fire across Pierce Charles and into the far corner of the net.

Ben Brereton Diaz twice went close to adding to Derby’s lead before half time but Liam Thompson did so 12 minutes into the second half when his scuffed effort into the ground from 15 yards out found the net after Wednesday failed to clear a free kick.

Any hopes of a revival were totally snuffed out four minutes later when Nathaniel Chalobah lost the ball almost immediately after coming on as a sub and when the ball eventually fell to Agyemang in the box he clipped a close-range effort high into the net.

It was 74 minutes before Wednesday had a shot on target, Svante Ingelsson’s angled effort blocked by keeper Jacob Widell Zetterstrom.

At the other end, Charles saved from Agyemang and Kayden Jackson to keep the score to 3-0 on a miserable night for the majority of the 23,466 crowd.

Manager Henrik Pedersen said his side failed to reach the same level as they did in the previous match against Watford, commenting: “In the big picture we didn’t create very much tonight.”

He added: “We had good phases, especially in the beginning of the game, but it was not enough to win a game like this today. The first part was good but the rest of the defending has to be better when you want to play on the ball.

“I think after 2-0 we lost our organisation and the intensity was not high enough.

“It’s an environment we have right now, where things are unclear for the future, where the squad is not so big but we have to get the best out of it.

“I see how the boys are training every day, I’ve seen what they have done in so many games.

“Tonight we cannot be happy with the performance but I’m sure that the players will come back strong again.”
