Wednesday followed up the midweek shambles at Notts County with another hugely disappointing performance in a 2-0 South Yorkshire derby defeat at Doncaster this afternoon to increase the pressure on manager Henrik Pedersen.

The home side were clearly up for the fight from the start, scoring twice in the opening 15 minutes, and we were totally outplayed in a woeful first-half display.

Rovers were ahead after just seven minutes when Wednesday failed to clear a right-wing corner and Owen Bailey was allowed to drill home from eight yards.

Worse followed eight minutes later when another low ball into the box found Bailey again in the same area and he finished in similar fashion.

The home side continued to press forward and could easily have had more goals to show for their superiority, with Wednesday’s only reply being a curled effort over the bar from Kieran Morrison.

In classic Wednesday style, we came out looking like a different team in the early stages of the second half.

Barry Bannan saw an angled effort saved by keeper Tommy Simkin and then Davis Keillor-Dunn missed a great chance, firing over when he should have hit the target.

Ex-Owl Will Keane was just wide at the other end but we continued to have the better of the action at that stage, Bannan running at the Doncaster defence before bringing a tipaway save out of Simkin from the edge of the box.

Simkin then denied Ali Al-Hamadi before keeping out a shot and header from Mason Burstow.

However, that 20-minute spell failed to bring any reward and it was the home side who almost added to the scoreline, Maynard-Brewer preventing Bailey from completing a hat-trick when he clawed away his header late on before the keeper denied Alfie May as he burst clear in a one-on-one in added time.

The final whistle was met with boos from several of the near 3,000 travelling Wednesday fans, the result seeing us slipping back to eighth place in League One and leaving that on-going question over the future of Henrik Pedersen as our manager.
