Henrik Pedersen is hopeful that Yan Valery will be fit to take his place in the Wednesday line-up for tomorrow’s home game with Stockport.

The defender was subbed in the second-half of the disappointing goalless S6 draw with Wigan last Saturday after suffering a knee injury but Pedersen said today: “Yan has looked very good in training, so it’s positive news with him, he has been strong.”

Loanee Ali Al-Hamadi has picked up a foot injury so could miss out, Pedersen adding: “We have six loan players and we can only use five in a squad.”

That may well mean a recall for fellow loanee Jaden Heskey who was the one to ‘lose out’ against Wigan.

Sil Swinkels is still on his way back from injury while Pedersen hopes Di’Shon Bernard is able to continue his road to recovery by playing at Salford City in our EFL Trophy match on Tuesday evening.

Stockport sit in eighth place in League One, with three wins and three losses from their six games, and are the division’s leading scorers with 16 goals in those matches.

Wednesday go into the game at the top of the table, hoping to get back to winning ways at Hillsborough after the Wigan result and knowing that three points would see us still heading the field as we go into an enforced international break for the Owls.

Call-ups mean the upcoming league games at Stevenage and then at home to Cambridge have been postponed, our next League One fixture after tomorrow now coming at Huddersfield on October 10.

Talking about the lengthy break, Pedersen said: “I think it is way too long.

”With so many matches to play and then not to have games for three weeks … I don’t think it is the right way to do it.”
