A second successive away win for Wednesday last night, this time 2-1 at Wycombe, took us into second place in the early League One table.

That situation could change this evening with other well-placed sides in action but three victories from four matches played so far sees us on nine points, one behind leaders Huddersfield.

It was a hard-earned triumph and we rode our luck at times, but the sold-out Wednesday contingent of fans showed their appreciation at another three early points.

Wycombe went ahead on seven minutes through Cauley Woodrow following a poor header from Gabriel Otegbayo but we were level soon afterwards when Louie Barry shot home after keeper Conor Hazard failed to hold onto Mason Burstow’s shot initial effort.

Unfortunately, Barry limped off on 16 minutes hi and we wait to find out the results of tests today.

The second, and decisive, goal came in added time at the end of the first half when Woodrow was adjudged to have brought down Jamal Lowe in the box.

Despite Wycombe’s protests, the decision stood and Lowe fired home from the spot.

The second half saw returning Man City loanee  Jaden Heskey on for the final 25 minutes and Yan Valery came closest to making it three.

Henrik Pedersen said afterwards: “I think we had a good beginning of the game and then they scored.

“But the mentality when we started after conceding the goal was exactly the same as before. And I like this mentality that we don’t lose focus, we stay to the game plan, we stay with the culture that we’re going to score, that we believe and we trust everything.

“How we came back it was very strong, and we came back to lead 2-1. After that, I think the last 20 minutes of the game we were generally in control.”
