Wednesday finished a well beaten side in a 4-0 drubbing at Swansea today.

Three second-half goals underlined Swansea’s superiority and we could now be relegated after next Saturday’s home game with Barry Bannan’s Millwall if results go against us.

There were debuts for Joel Ndala and Tayo Adaramola and for second-half sub Marvellous Nakamba but it all ended with another defeat and a history-making ninth league game without a  goal for the club.

Swansea looked sharp and aggressive from the start and took the lead on 19 minutes when Goncalo Franco turned the ball home from inside the six-yard box after a flowing move.

Ndala, who showed some good skills, set up Jarvis Thornton but he fired high and wide from outside the penalty area midway through the first half and Swansea almost doubled their lead just before half time when Liam Cullen’s lob over Murphy Cooper landed on the top of the crossbar.

The second period followed in the same vein with Swansea in control and three goals in the last 20 minutes saw them to a comfortable and emphatic victory, with the Owls again failing to register an effort on target.

The Swans made it 2-0 on 70 minutes when leading scorer Zan Vipotnik hammered home a fierce free kick from the edge of the box through a gap in the Wednesday wall.

Eight minutes later the striker was there again with time and space in the box to turn and net from 12 yards and our eighth successive Championship defeat was completed two minutes from time when sub Malick Yalcouye’s solo run through some poor defending ended with an excellent finish.

Henrik Pedersen said:  “We’re all frustrated that we didn’t compete better for the 90 minutes.

“The game started well for us, we played with a back four for the first time and the boys looked really fresh at the beginning.

“However, I could see their shoulders drop slightly after the first goal and we started to lose easy ball. Swansea are a strong side on the ball and they moved us around in the last 25 minutes of the half.

“In the second half, we wanted to risk more offensively but it proved more expensive and we conceded three goals in transition.”
