Dominic Iorfa is to leave the Owls after seven years at Hillsborough.
The 30-year-old defender has been released by the club after the retained list was published today, Iorfa having made 222 appearances for Wednesday and netting seven times.
Iorfa said on Instagram: “After seven and a half years and eight seasons, the time has come for me to say goodbye to Sheffield Wednesday.
“I’ve been proud to wear the shirt and represent this club. There have been plenty of ups and downs but moments like promotion, staying up on the final day and the atmosphere at the last game will stay with me forever.
“To the best fans out there, thank you for the incredible support and for making me and my family feel at home from day one. Hearing ‘fastest man in Yorkshire’ being sung is something I’ll never forget and it’s been a special feeling.
“To my teammates, past and present, thank you. I’ve shared the dressing room with some incredible people and made friends for life.
“A big thank you as well to all the staff, physios, coaches and everyone behind the scenes. You’ve been amazing with me throughout my time here and I’ll forever appreciate it.
“Sheffield will always hold a special place in my heart, especially with my kids being born here and now growing up as Wednesday fans.
“It’s been a tough season but with the new ownership I’m sure brighter days are ahead and the club will be back where it belongs. I wish @swfcofficial all the very best for the future.”
Meanwhile, Max Lowe, who made an impressive return to first team action towards the end of last season after a lengthy injury lay-off, is in talks with the club over his future while youngsters Mackenzie Maltby and Gui Siqueira are to be invited back to pre-season training with a view to possibly extending their agreements at S6.
Club options have been taken up on the contracts of George Brown, Joe Emery, Svante Ingelsson, Cole McGhee, Denny Oliver, Liam Palmer, Logan Stretch and Ernie Weaver while Wednesday confirmed that Jamal Lowe triggered an automatic contract extension during last season.
We have offered new contracts to Liam Cooper, Bruno Fernandes, Reece Johnson, Devlan Moses, Jack Phillips and Jarvis Thornton while Nathaniel Chalobah, Harry Evers, Junior Kamwa, Marvelous Nakamba, Favour Onukwuli, Rio Shipston and Zain Silcott-Duberry join Iorfa in departing the club.
In addition, loanees Tayo Adaramola, Murphy Cooper, Jaden Heskey, Joel Ndala and Jerry Yates have all returned to their parent clubs.
