The first half of today’s warm-up double header ended in a largely low-key goalless draw for Wednesday at Accrington.

Wednesday, wearing the new yellow away strip, fielded recent signings Conal Trueman in goal and Mason Burstow up front while ex-Owl Reece James was a ‘triallist’.

Yan Valery was back in the Wednesday line-up after his shortlived World Cup with Tunisia but both sides struggled to create clearcut chances in the first 45 minutes.

Cole McGhee came on for captain Liam Cooper at half time while Devlan Moses replaced Burstow and Joe Emery took over from Valery. However, McGhee suffered what appeared to be a shoulder injury within minutes of the restart and his place was soon taken by Aodhan Sopala.

Once again, there were few openings at either end and the liveliest action came in the closing minutes with a scuffle between Will Grainger and Devon Matthews saw players from both sides involved in the ensuing melee.
