Barry Bannan looks like he could be playing his last game for Wednesday at Bristol City tomorrow.

Online reports are saying that the skipper told his team-mates today that the City match will be his final appearance for the Owls. With his contract running out at the end of the season, several clubs have been reported as being interested in him, with Millwall seemingly his likely destination.

The game at Bristol will also be Bannan’s 477th appearance for the club after moving to Hillsborough in August 2015.

He was substituted minutes before the end of the S6 defeat to Birmingham on Tuesday evening and applauded all three ‘Wednesday’ sides of the ground as he left the pitch, before he and Henrik Pedersen hugged on the touchline.

With Wednesday still under administration amidst on-going talks with the possible new owners, and the January transfer window in full swing, other clubs are not surprisingly showing an interest in a clutch of current Wednesday players.

Youngster Yisa Alao is said to be close to joining Chelsea for an estimated £500,000 fee, plus add-ons,  while Yan Valery and Max Lowe are likely targets – possibly for ex-manager Danny Rohl now at Glasgow Rangers – and we have already turned down a bid from Hibernian for Bailey Cadamarteri earlier in the window.

Pedersen told yesterday’s press conference: “There will be more interest in our players, of course. Let’s see what happens.

“I can only say I really, really hope we can keep our players because we don’t have many. It would be nice to keep who we have.”

Harry Amass now looks likely to join Norwich on loan after his successful spell with Wednesday and Pedersen indicated that we will be looking largely at similar moves for young players whose clubs are seeking to give them experience of first-team football during this transfer window.

As far as the match at Bristol City tomorrow is concerned, the Owls boss said yesterday that there were injury doubts over Svante Ingelsson and Yan Valery after the Birmingham defeat.

City were hit by their own transfer blow today when their impressive winger Anis Mehmeti joined promotion-chasing Ipswich.
